“Flying carpet” is a story written by Hong Kong writer “XiXi”. It talk about the transition for “Flying earth town” through Hua(flower in mandarin) family. Reader will notice the “Flying earth town” resemble many factors of Hong Kong. But due to globalisation, the town transition can be applied to any develop country.
There is trace of Gabriel GarcÃa Márquez magical and illusive in Flying carpet. But what XiXi has put in the “Chinese” factor : “Yuan”(缘), reason for all the cause and consequences.
The story also bring out the message of history preservation.

It is rather sad for a country that independent for almost 50 year but fail to produce a modern literature about the country. The modern Malaysia literature is almost non-existent.
